Accordion Piece is an iterative movement and sound duet first performed at Shedshows in February 2024. My life partner Mai Snow and I elaborate movements, breath, weight, interdependence, connection, and rupture mediated by the organ-like accordion between us. Muted notes create suspended moments of breath, silence, tension, and leaning. The addition of third performer Miles Matis-Uzzo in the piece added a choreographed gaze that complicated the dynamic between myself, my partner, and the audience. Accordion was performed at Northern-Southern gallery’s show Interdependence, in Valentine, Texas in March 2025 and in Marfa, Texas in September 2025 during the Sonic Rodeo sound art festival. Organically and unintentionally Accordion Piece grew into a performance of our relationship, an embodiment of the intense vulnerability of falling in love, being hurt, hurting, breaking apart, and coming back together.
